Stephen is a winger who joined Dale in May 2018 from Coleraine, whom he helped to win the Irish Cup in the previous season.
The 29-year-old began his career with The Bannsiders, appearing in the 2008 Irish Cup Final at the age of just 16.
He moved to Derry City in 2014, before joining Cork City for a successful two-year spell in 2016, winning the FAI League and Cup double in 2017 alongside former Dale defender Ryan Delaney.
Stephen returned to Coleraine on a six-month deal in January 2018, but left the club at the end of that season to sign a two-year deal at the Crown Oil Arena.
That contract has since been extended and Dooley will remain a Rochdale player until the summer of 2022.
