Award Nomination For Keira's Girls

20 March 2024

Rochdale AFC Community Trust are celebrating another national award nomination, as the Keira Walsh Rochdale Girls Development Centre has been shortlisted at the prestigious Women’s Football Awards.

The Development Centre was launched in October, aimed at providing a quality playing environment for girls living or playing in Rochdale who show the potential to perform to a higher standard.

Delivered by Rochdale AFC Community Trust, the programme is supported by Lioness and Nike Athlete Keira Walsh, who hails from Rochdale but is currently playing for FC Barcelona.

“There are a number of talented girls in Rochdale who, for various reasons, cannot access pathways available for talented girls,” commented Community Director Ryan Bradley.

“The nearest talent centre is Salford or Burnley. With Keira’s support, we can now put in quality sessions with UEFA licensed coaches, at a quality facility using the very best Nike equipment.

“We can develop talent and refer them into RTC’s, directly into the Lioness pathway programme or even into a full-time environment at the Rochdale AFC Sports College programme, which has seen female footballers develop as footballers both in the UK and USA alongside a quality education.”

The Women’s Football Awards celebrates all levels of the game – from grassroots greatness to the superstar players on the pitch.

Launched in 2022, in association with Daily Mail Sport and Metro, this is Britain and Europe’s biggest awards event for women’s football.

The ceremony recognises the people, organisations and brands with a track record of promoting the sport and attracts the biggest names in world football.

The 2024 ceremony, hosted by former Lioness Eni Aluko and Sky Sports presenter Jamie Carragher, will take place on 30 May in London.

Rochdale AFC are nominated in the Grass Roots Initiative of the Season and will go up against Fulham, Chelsea and Disney amongst others.
