Man Of The Match Calvin Andrew On Victory Over Slough

5 December 2017

Calvin Andrew praised Dale’s professionalism in their 4-0 Emirates FA Cup second round victory over Slough Town on Monday night.

Andrew scored one and assisted two on the night, which saw him pick up the BT Sport Man Of The Match award.

“It’s nice to receive the accolade,” said Andrew.

“As always, I’m my own worst critic. I felt I could have put the game to bed in the first half – I had a couple of chances that I probably should have scored.

“But I’m pleased to come away with the win and the Man of the Match accolade.

“There’s things we can brush up on, as always you come away from games and you critique the negative parts.

“Credit to them [Slough], because they put in a good performance and gave me a hard time up front, especially the two centre halves. They’re a good side.

“We were professional, we didn’t concede a goal, we stuck to task and we’re happy with the win.

“It was a good team performance. In the end, we stuck to task and ground out the clean sheet, so we’re happy.”

The forward opened the scoring after 13 minutes, and celebrated with a hand over his face. However, the reason behind the celebration will remain a secret.

“It’s an inside joke between myself and Ollie Rathbone. It’s a personal joke – just a bit of fun!”

Dale’s victory sets up a third round tie away to Doncaster Rovers, which will be the fourth time the sides have faced each other this season by the time the tie comes around.

“We’ve had chances to scout them a couple of times now. We approach all of the games the same.

“The staff do a great job in preparing us for each game, so we’ll go into it with the same mentality we do in every game.”
