TEAM NEWS

Kairo Mitchell's red card picked up against Hartlepool United on Easter Monday could see him miss the game, although Dale have appealed the sending off, with a decision expected before Saturday's game.

Ian Henderson returned from his own suspension in the game and could be in line to replace Mitchell if needed, although McNulty has a number of options available to him with only Kyle Ferguson and Brad Kelly out through injury.

THE OPPOSITION

Oldham are winless in their last seven games, but still have a chance of reaching the National League playoffs, sitting five points off seventh placed Aldershot with four games remaining.

Micky Mellon was appointed their manager in October, with his first game being the 4-3 win at the Crown Oil Arena.

He guided them up the league table and Latics were sitting in the playoff places until their recent sticky patch.

Former Tranmere Rovers and Ipswich Town forward James Norwood is their top scorer with 17 goals.

Match Reports

Report | Oldham Athletic 1-1 Dale

6 April 2024

Dale took a point away from Boundary Park after a 1-1 draw with Oldham Athletic.

The hosts took the lead early on through Hallam Hope, but a combination of Sam Mather and the home defence levelled matters before the break.

Chances were few and far between in the second-half as both sides were forced to settle or a point.

Jimmy McNulty made one change from the team that started Easter Monday’s dramatic 1-1 draw with Hartlepool United, as Cameron John came in for Finlay Armstrong. The appeal against Kairo Mitchell’s red card picked up in that game was successful and he started.

Dale created the first chance inside the opening minute when a cross from the left came through to Kyron Gordon, who flashed a first-time effort over from 25 yards.

However, the hosts took the lead in the seventh minute when Josh Lundstram won the ball high up the pitch and fed Hallam Hope, who fired into the roof of the net.

James Norwood and Liam Hogan had efforts at the Dale goal before Mather had an effort deflected wide.

From the resulting corner, the Manchester United loanee was involved again as Dale equalised. A corner was sent to the front post area where Mather got a slight touch before the ball hit an Oldham defender a couple of yards out and trickled over the line.

After the break, Jacob Chapman collected a couple of weak efforts from Andy Dallas and Norwood, whilst Ryan East hit a shot over from 25 yards after driving forward.

Oldham came closest to getting a winner when Dallas hit a left foot effort off the upright, before Dale’s best chance came when Mitchell was played through by East. He was forced wide by goalkeeper Mathew Hudson and saw a shot blocked before Hayes clipped one wide of the far post.

Norwood lashed an effort well off target in added time, as both sides were forced to settle for a point.

Dale XI | Chapman, Gordon, John, East, Ebanks-Landell ©, Mitchell, Rodney ('90 Henderson), Hayes (78' Mellor), Sassi, Gilmour, Mather ('85 Sinclair).

Unused subs | Keohane,  Nevett.
