Report | Dale 0-0 Blackpool

24 August 2019

Rochdale picked up a point against Sky Bet League One leaders Blackpool in a 0-0 draw at the Crown Oil Arena.

Goalkeeper Robert Sánchez kept Blackpool at bay with a spectacular save in the first-half, in a game with little clear cut chances for either side.

Jimmy Ryan made his first start for the Club, replacing Aaron Morley in the only change from Tuesday night’s game against Sunderland.

On a glorious day at the Crown Oil Arena, Callum Camps saw a free-kick from 22-yards deflected wide by the Blackpool wall, with the first effort of the game.

Blackpool striker Armand Gnanduillet turned a cross from the right well over, before he produced a fine save from Dale stopper Robert Sánchez.

Gnanduillet met an inswinging corner with a powerful header, but a superb reflex save from the on-loan Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper saw him turn it over the crossbar.

In a half of few chances, the visitors’ Jordan Thompson dragged an effort wide from distance, whilst Stephen Dooley and Ryan both had efforts for Dale in the closing stages.

Rekeil Pyke, who missed the previous two games due to injury, replaced Ryan the break, and almost made an impact after five minutes.

He made a run into the area and was found by Dooley, but an excellent challenge from former Dale loanee Ryan Edwards took the sting out of his effort and allowed the goalkeeper to collect.

Dale had Sánchez to thank moments later though, when Sullay Kaikai jinked past two defenders, before the goalkeeper saved the Blackpool man’s shot with his shin.

Camps sent a fizzing left foot shot narrowly over, shortly before his free-kick from the right was turned wide by Henderson with a first-time cushioned effort.

Thompson had the visitors’ best chance of the second-half, when he met Joe Nuttall’s knock down sweetly, but sent the effort straight at Sánchez who held well.

In the final minute of five added, a cross from the left found its way through to the back post, coming off the inside of the upright, before it was cleared by Rhys Norrington-Davies on the line.
