Alex is an attacking midfielder who joined Dale in August 2020 from Chorley.
The 25-year-old started his senior career at his hometown club, Barrow, in 2014 and spent two seasons at Holker Street before moving to Chorley, via a spell with Clitheroe, in February 2018.
Alex played 94 games for The Magpies during his time at Victory Park and was a member of the squad that won promotion to the National League in 2019.
He picked up the Goal of the Season award in all three of his campaigns with Chorley.
