McNulty On Gordon & His Own Registration

5 January 2024

Jimmy McNulty says Kyron Gordon is a player Dale have been aware of for some time, after he joined the club this week.

The defender, who can operate at full-back or centre-back, has signed a deal until the end of the season.

The Head Coach was eager to bring him to the Crown Oil Arena and says he will be a good addition.

“Kyron is a good player that we have been aware of for some time,” commented McNulty. “He’s a bit of a hybrid full-back/centre-back. We believe we’ve needed some help in that area of the squad, and we think he can certainly help us.

“As soon as we were aware that he was only on a short-term deal that was coming to an end, we made communication with him, and he was very excited about the prospect of joining us.

“He had heard a lot about us from Sam Graham and others that had been here, including Max Conway, about how we play and luckily for us he was quite excited about it.

“It's important that he's someone who will fit into this group. There are only a small number of us this year so anyone coming in has to be the right person as well.

“All the references I’ve had from people in the game are that he’s a good pro, he’s a winner and he plays from the right place, which is heart. So, he’s a good addition to the group in that regard as well.”

McNulty also confirmed that he has registered himself as a player, with the squad currently low on numbers.

Although he states it is temporary measure whilst assessments are made on potential further recruitment, the Head Coach felt it was important to stand side-by-side with his players.

“We all know where we are situation wise. In any other situation it’s not something we’d be considering, but the squad needs some help.

“Although this is a measure that we will hopefully not have to use, those players have been willing to play in any position at any time for me so far, so when they need the help now, I think it’s important that I show I am also willing to do the same sacrifices for them, that they have for me.

“It’s ultimately my appreciation of the players’ efforts so far that I am showing them I am willing to stand side by side with them, like the fanbase have been. Any little thing that can help, I am willing to do it.

“This is more of a short-term emergency type measure whilst we assess the market, to get the type of players that we want, and think can help us.

“There are players out there right now that we could take immediately on a free, but we want to be certain that they can join us and be the type of people and players that can help to amplify what is already good here.

“This is more of a temporary measure whilst we bide time and assess the market from our frugal position, where we have to be careful what we do, and this just give us a little bit more time to help us make the best decisions possible.”
