Dale Women In Quarter-Final Action Today

28 January 2024

The Dale Women’s Lancashire County Cup quarter-final tie against Wigan Athletic Women has been rearranged for this afternoon.

Lee Atkinson’s side were supposed to face Wigan Athletic Women last Sunday, with both sides hoping to progress through to the semi-finals of the Lancashire County Cup, but their game was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

“It's another massive game for us to look forward to,” said the Dale Women Manager.

“It's another quarter-final and it's a game we definitely want to win.

“Wigan are currently unbeaten so we will have to be at our best. We played really well in the first-half of our last league game and they are the levels that we need to be hitting to get a result this weekend.”

Dale hosted Eastleigh Juniors Ladies in the first game of the competition, beating them 21-0.

They then met Colne FC Ladies in the next round, and thanks to a brace from Ellie Fergus and a goal from Shannon Gill, Dale progressed to the next round following a 3-1 win.

Wigan are enjoying a fantastic season as they sit at the top of their league following the Lactics Women’s opening eight games, picking up maximum points.

Dale’s opponents have progressed to this stage of the competition following a 16-0 win against Haslingden Ladies & Girls HGLFC Reserves and a 4-1 win against Atherton Laburnum Rovers Ladies.

The game is being played at Rochdale St Clements, with kick-off at 2pm.
