Youth Team Report | Walsall 1-4 Dale

12 February 2024

The Youth Team were 4-1 winners at Walsall in the EFL Youth Alliance League at the weekend.

Brooklyn Bailey bagged a brace, whilst Leo Cooper and Isaac Burgess netted to give Dale a 4-1 win against Walsall.

The Saddlers were the first to strike, taking the lead through their number 11, who did well to beat a couple of Dale defenders. The forward then combined well with his teammate, playing a quick one-two before firing the ball into the back of the net.

Bailey levelled things up following a slick Dale move. The number seven directed the ball into the bottom corner using his left foot from outside of the penalty area, beating the Walsall keeper.

In the second-half, the Youth Team really came into the game and began to express themselves, with Leo Cooper firing home from close range to give his side the lead.

Dale extended their advantage through Bailey, who netted his fifth in his last two games.

The forward was on hand to poke the ball into the back of the net despite the best efforts from the Walsall goalkeeper.

The Youth Team’s fourth and final goal came from Burgess, who swept the ball into the back of the net following a free-kick.

Lee Thorpe’s side are in action again next Saturday as they host Salford City in the EFL Youth Alliance League.
