Fantastic Training Opportunities At The COA

16 February 2024

Hundreds of unemployed people in Rochdale have already given their career prospects a boost by accessing free training at the Crown Oil Arena – and you could too.

As one of the country’s leading training providers, Realise is delivering fully funded Adult Education Budget (AEB) vocational training to people in the town in conjunction with Greater Manchester Combined Authority.

Anyone over the age of 19, living in Rochdale, Oldham or Bury and not in employment is eligible to sign up for courses.

There are a wide range of programmes on offer, including functional skills in English and maths, logistics and warehousing, introduction to early years, vocational hairdressing, cleaning, mental health first aid, digital skills, licensed security officer, licensed event steward and employability skills.

Today we turn the spotlight on just three of the amazing courses on offer.

Warehousing & Logistics

Do you want to work in a warehouse setting? This course equips learners with a detailed understanding of a variety of warehouse processes, including manual handling, stock checks and processing orders.

At the end of the course, you will be equipped with key work and life skills such as communication to help with progression to employment and everyday activities.

You’ll also look at the customer service process and how it can impact an organisation, ensuring you are ready to excel.

Licensed Security Officer

This short course will give you the opportunity to gain your Security Industry Authority licence in just three weeks.

You will learn about spectator safety, including dealing with crowd issues at events, managing and resolving conflicts and coping with incidents.

The course also covers emergency first aid, the principles of working in both the private sector and as a door supervisor, and the application of conflict management.

If you are physically and emotionally healthy, this course could help you step into a new career.

Teaching Assistant Skills

There is a nationwide shortage of teaching assistants – this qualification could help you forge a career in the classroom.

If you want to support the class teacher in enhancing children and young people's learning, this course will help you gain the skills, knowledge and confidence to do so.

Teaching assistants are good role models, act with honesty and integrity, take part in team meetings, contribute to planning and class activities and are a key part in education today.

One of our specialist trainers will help you every step of the way to learn and progress.

AEB courses are also taking place in Oldham at Earl Business Centre and Bury at Gigg Lane stadium. In total, just over 1,600 people will receive training in Greater Manchester - 666 in Rochdale, 453 in Bury and 519 in Oldham - over the course of the 12-month contract.
