Cian Hayes Returns

1 February 2024

Rochdale Football Club is delighted to announce the return of Cian Hayes.

The winger re-joins the club on loan from Fleetwood Town until the end of the season.

Hayes made a great impact in his loan spell with Dale earlier this season, scoring twice in nine appearances.

Head Coach Jimmy McNulty says he is thrilled to have Cian back.

“It felt like a loss when he returned to Fleetwood,” said McNulty.

“He was in a good vein of form and really enjoying his football here. His first loan was exactly what he needed, and he produced exactly what we wanted as well.

“He’s one that we’ve obviously monitored since he returned, and at the moment he became available, we were always looking to make that a possibility again.”

Hayes will however be unavailable for this weekend’s game at home to Dagenham & Redbridge due to injury, as Dale’s Head Coach explained.

“He is at the back end of a medium-term injury that he sustained in his time back at Fleetwood.

“That may have helped our chances of getting him back again, because off the back of his loan here, there were EFL clubs keeping their eye on him.

“He definitely won’t be available for this weekend and if he’s not available for next week’s, he’ll be very close after that.”

Hayes first joined Dale on loan at beginning of October, making his debut as a substitute in our 2-2 draw at Maidenhead United.

He scored his first goal for the club in our 3-2 win at Hartlepool United, before extending his loan deal and helping Dale to three wins in a row in November, which included a spectacular strike against Dagenham & Redbridge.

The Republic of Ireland Under-19 international appeared five times for Fleetwood after returning to his parent club but has now returned to Dale.

This signing has been made possible thanks to a sizeable contribution from a long-standing supporter, directly to the Club, and with help from the Squad Builder Fund.

Launched in January, funds raised through the Squad Builder have been ringfenced for our First Team playing budget. The funds from the individual, and the Squad Builder, show how important financial contributions from the fanbase are to the Club, which we are hugely appreciative of.

We would like to say a massive thank you to the individual, and all of those supporters who have contributed either directly to the Club, or via the Dale Supporters Trust.

Welcome back, Cian!
