Report | Dale 0-0 Boreham Wood

16 April 2024

Dale’s final home game of the season ended goalless against Boreham Wood.

Jimmy McNulty made three changes from Saturday’s game. Tyrese Sinclair, D’Mani Mellor and Dan Sassi came into the starting eleven, in place of Jimmy Keohane, Cian Hayes and Sam Mather.

The visitors, knowing a win would lift them out of the relegation zone, started the quicker of the two times and did have the ball in the back of the net after six minutes, although it was ruled out for offside.

David Agbonthoma saw an acrobatic overhead kick held by Jacob Chapman and Femi Ilesanmi fired wide from distance as they searched for the opener.

But Dale soon found their stride and Sinclair’s whipped cross for Mellor was close to being turned home by the on-loan Wycombe Wanderers man, who was impressing on the left.

Ryan East came closest for Dale when he crashed a 25-yard effort off the face of the crossbar after some patient build-up play from Dale.

Mellor then steered a header wide before seeing another shot blocked as Dale looked the most likely to break the deadlock before the break.

After the break, East saw a shot blocked, and Mellor had a well-struck first-time effort soundly stopped by goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore.

Lee Ndlovu sent a couple of efforts off-target for the visitors, whilst Devante Rodney and George Nevett did the same for Dale.

Mitchell headed a Cian Hayes cross over the bar, who had been introduced on the hour mark.

But he nor his teammates, nor the opposition, could find a route to goal that would provide a winner, and Dale’s final home game of the season ended goalless.

Dale XI | Chapman, Gordon, East, Ebanks-Landell ©, Sinclair (82’ Mather), Mitchell, Rodney, Mellor (60’ Hayes), Nevett, Sassi, Gilmour.
