McNulty Ahead Of Final Day

19 April 2024

Jimmy McNulty wants Dale to maintain their competitive edge right up to the final whistle of the season.

His side travel to Southend United on the final day this Saturday, with our hosts still in with a chance of making the National League playoffs.

“They’ll be absolutely desperate to get over the line in what would be an incredible achievement,” said the Head Coach.

“To me, it’s a football match that I really want to win. I’ve said so many times that I believe we can win the next game.

“I thought we put on a great performance against Southend at home, but they scored two goals against the run of play on the day. They showed the power that they’ve got and there was a ruthlessness from Harry Cardwell on the day. We didn’t give them much. We put in a great performance, and we drew 2-2.

“I think they’re on the longest unbeaten run in the league of 15 games, which is more than Chesterfield managed this season, which is amazing to outdo them who have been worthy champions. It will be a really tough game and there’ll be an added edge to it.

“It may be a moment where we can look at things. We have to benefit from the fact that we are in a comfortable position. There may be things that I have a chance to look at squad-wise. Moving into next season I think it is important that we do so.

“But we have to do that whilst maintaining the competitive edge that we have had for 45 games. That’s something we can be proud of as a club. That edge all season long has meant we’ve never been out of any game. We’ve been right there, and no one has blown us away in our first season in this league. I would love us to take all that into the final day. It’s a game I think we can win.”

Tickets for the game must be purchased on the day from Southend’s Ticket Office. Click HERE for full details.
