Report | Dale Women 21-0 East Leigh Juniors Ladies

16 October 2023

Dale Women impressed in the Lancashire FA Women’s Challenge Cup on Sunday as they beat East Leigh Juniors Ladies 21-0.

Lee Atkinson was looking for a response on Sunday following Dale Women's exit from the Women's FA Cup last week, and he got just that.

Rebecca Leonard, Wiktoria Makoska, Alicia Barnett, and on her Dale Women's debut, Jodie Cocker, all scored braces on Sunday afternoon.

Shannon Gill, who was the Player of the Match and second goalscorer against MSB Woolton in the Women's FA Cup at the Crown Oil Arena last month, scored five against East Leigh Juniors Ladies on Sunday.

Ellie Fergus, who netted the opener against MSB Woolton, was on the scoresheet again this weekend. The forward scored an impressive eight goals, claiming the Player of the Match award.

The Dale Women's manager was extremely pleased with how his team went about their business on Sunday.

"I'm really happy with the game," said Atkinson.

"It's always nice to score lots of goals, but the most pleasing thing for me was the performance from all the players.

"They took everything that we spoke about at training into the game and were ruthless in everything they did.

"Their quality on the ball was exceptional. We looked dangerous every time that we had possession.

"Out of possession, which was our biggest focus for the game, we were superb. We never gave the opposition any time on the ball. The effort for the full 90 minutes was excellent.

"We needed a big reaction following last weekend's game, and that's exactly what we got from them.

"I think East Leigh just played us at the wrong time. They worked tirelessly throughout the game and still tried to play good football. We wish them the best of luck for the season ahead.

"Our focus now turns to the Manchester FA Women's County Cup, which is next Sunday against Mancunian Unity Women Reserves at home.

"It should be another good challenge, as they are in the same division as us and have started very well.

"A big thanks to everyone who came down to support us on Sunday, we hope to see them again next week as we look to get into the next round of the Manchester FA Women's County Cup."
