We Created Good Chances - McNulty

4 October 2023

Jimmy McNulty felt Dale created enough chances to take something from Tuesday’s game at Solihull Moors.

Two second-half goals sealed three points for the still-unbeaten Moors, but Dale were made to rue missed chances.

“It was a strange one really,” said McNulty.

“I don’t know how we’ve lost the game. We weren’t overly stressed at all. I don’t remember Lou [Louie Moulden] having to do too much.

“I think the overriding take away from me is, I don’t know how we haven’t scored tonight.

“We had four really good chances, but sometimes that happens in football. In some games, it happens all at once when you have collective good chances, and the ball doesn’t go in the net.

“The first goal was always going to be important. I was always mindful that they would feel buoyed and confident if they went ahead.

“But other than that, the switch off for the first goal, which was costly, I don’t think Louie was tested, other than the free-kick in the first-half.

“The goal gave them some belief and allowed them to defend low and together, and it was always going to be difficult to try and reverse the scoreline against a team that’s unbeaten so far.

“I thought we created a number of really good chances that it’s hard to accept that we didn’t score tonight. We did more than enough to win the game and were definitely good enough for a point.

“The stats will say that we controlled dominated the game and carved out a number of opportunities to get a goal. It just wasn’t to be tonight.

“We showed a couple of moments of immaturity, at 0-0 then when chasing the game, but that’s normal for the profile of this squad, I accept that. The second goal is a total switch off which makes the game difficult to come back in, but the first goal is the key one.”
