Hayes Hungry To Win

25 October 2023

Cian Hayes was disappointed following last night's 2-2 draw and says that Dale will work hard to try and get the fans a win on Saturday.

Dale had to settle for a draw last night after Gateshead scored twice to make a second-half comeback, cancelling out Jesurun Uchegbulam's and Ian Henderson's first-half goals.

Dale loanee Cian Hayes was voted as the Man of the Match by Match Sponsors Aquacheck.
When interviewed after the game, the winger said: "It’s really disappointing to only come out with a draw from that game after being 2-0 up.

“There are also a lot of positives to take out of the game, but we do have to look at the negatives as well, which we’re going to work really hard on throughout the rest of the week to make things right, ready for Saturday’s game against Hartlepool [United], where we want nothing other than a win.

“I want to win really badly, all the lads want to win really badly, all the coaches want to win. That’s what we’re going to work towards for the rest of the week to make sure that we do that for the fans.

“The first-half was excellent from the boys, everyone did their job perfectly. We were comfortable in possession. By moving the ball around, we forced them out of their game massively and stopped them from playing the way that they like to play. We forced them to play that way, which was excellent from us, and it allowed us to play our game.

“The role I'm playing and the system is everything that I want to do in football. I love playing off the right. I love being on the ball, being able to get at people and to try and make the fans excited. I just need to start scoring some goals, which I’m working towards, and hopefully, I can get the first one on Saturday."

When asked about playing under Jimmy McNulty and his loan spell so far, Hayes said: “I'm loving it. The gaffer’s absolutely brilliant. He’s a great guy and a great coach. He motivates the lads, and all the lads love him. I’m loving my time here so far. It’s been excellent.

"I just want to play football and play my game, and as long as I’m doing that, I’ll be absolutely over the moon."
