Report | Wealdstone 3-2 Dale

11 November 2023

Dale conceded an injury time goal to succumb to a 3-2 defeat at Wealdstone.

Kairo Mitchell netted his eighth of the season with just nine minutes on the clock, but the hosts levelled on the stroke of half-time.

Ryan East scored shortly after the interval to restore the lead, but that lasted just three minutes as Sean Adarkwa turned home.

The hosts then scored in the fifth minute of injury time to take all three points, when Jack Cook headed home.

There was one change from Dale’s last outing, the 3-2 win at Hartlepool United. Adam Clayton came in for Jesurun Uchegbulam, who was on the bench alongside Cameron John, who had been out injured for the previous six weeks.

Dale began brightly and opened the scoring inside ten minutes. Harvey Gilmour played an excellent through ball to Mitchell, who got to it before the outrushing goalkeeper and poked the ball home from the edge of the area.

Louie Moulden was called into action a few times during the opening 45 minutes, making one-handed saves from Sean Adarkwa and Tarryn Allarakhia, whilst Mitchell and Ryan East produced saves from Stones goalkeeper Jed Ward.

The hosts equalised on the stroke of half-time when a cross from the right was turned into the back of the Dale net from close range. Cook was the closest home player to it, but it will more than likely go down as an own goal.

Dale started the second-half as quickly as they did the first, when East scored his second in as many games to restore the lead.

A quick break led to Cian Hayes bursting past two defenders and into the area before finding East, whose deflected shot found the back of the net.

However, the lead lasted less than three minutes, when Sean Adarkwa turned home a cross from the right to level for a second time.

Hayes looked a threat on the Dale right for most of the game and hit one wide of the near post after receiving a great through ball from Kwaku Oduroh.

Gilmour saw a free-kick beaten away before both Hayes and Henderson had shots from inside the area well blocked.

The hosts sent a couple of efforts target as the game came towards a close, before they stole the three points at the death, as Cook headed home from a wide free-kick, leaving no way back for Dale.

Dale XI | Moulden, Oduroh, Ebanks-Landell, Nevett, Keohane, Clayton, East (67' Rodney), Gilmour, Hayes, Henderson (77' Uchegbulam), Mitchell.

Unused subs | B Kelly, John, Taylor.
