Dale Women In Cup Action On Sunday

16 November 2023

Dale Women host Colne FC Ladies in the third round of the Lancashire FA Women’s Challenge Cup this Sunday.

Following their exit from the Manchester FA Women’s Challenge Cup last Sunday, Lee Atkinson's side will be looking to bounce back as they take on Colne FC Ladies this weekend.

"We’re expecting another tough game on Sunday," said Atkinson.

"Colne are doing really well in their league, only losing one game so far this season.

"They're coming off the back of a big win against Sir Tom Finney Women too. So they will be confident.

"We have to concentrate on ourselves and build on the positives from the second-half against Bury.

"We did pick up a few more injuries, but we are hoping that they will be back in time for Sunday's game.

"It’s the 3rd round of the Lancashire County Cup for us, and it’s a competition we want to go far in.

"We have a brilliant competitive squad, and they will be raring to go on Sunday."

Dale Women were convincing winners in the second round, beating East Leigh Juniors Ladies 21-0.

Ellie Fergus scored an impressive eight goals, Shannon Gill bagged five, whilst Rebecca Leonard, Wiktoria Makoska, Alicia Barnett, and Jodie Cocker all scored braces.

Colne were 6-1 winners against Sir Tom Finney FC 1st Women in the previous round, whilst both sides received a bye in the first round.

Due to the recent weather, Sunday's game has been moved to Kingsway Park High School on the 3G pitch [Turf Hill Road, Rochdale OL16 4XA].

Kick-off on Sunday (19th November) remains at 2pm. Entry is free for any supporters who want to attend the game.
