Goalkeeper Moulden Joins On Loan

13 July 2023

Rochdale Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Louie Moulden on loan.

The goalkeeper joins from Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers until the end of the season.

Moulden is the son of former Dale striker Paul, who played 21 games for the club in the 1995/96 season.

Upon joining Dale, Moulden commented:

“I’m really happy. It’s been in the making for a couple of weeks now. I’ve had a bit of back and forth with the gaffer [Jimmy McNulty] and Kris [Dixon] the Goalkeeping Coach, so to get it done is exciting.

“I’m a local lad so I know what the club is about. With the way Jimmy sold it to me about the way he wants to play and what they’re building here, I think it could be exciting.

“The loan journey is all about playing. I wanted to go somewhere that I had the best chance of playing and best chance of progressing. It seemed like the logical next step up for me.”

Head Coach Jimmy McNulty said:

“We’re excited to have secure Louie’s services, who had interest from EFL and National League clubs.

“He is a highly rated goalkeeper with experience at this level already and is well suited to the club’s possession-dominant style, as we look to evolve our team from last season.

“He’s a highly ambitious and driven individual who possesses an elite mentality – he trains and plays with great intensity.

“Richard O’Donnell was allowed to leave in the knowledge that we were recruiting Louie. He will be good for the environment, again reflecting the type of characters we want.”

A former Liverpool and Manchester City youngster, Moulden spent time on loan at Gloucester when with the Citizens in 2020.

He signed for Wolves on a permanent deal in the summer of 2021, before joining our opening day opponents Ebbsfleet United on loan for the second half of the 21/22 campaign.

The 21-year-old was a key member of their side that made it to the National League South playoff final, before stepping up to the National League the following season with Solihull Moors.

He impressed in 16 appearances for Moors, before heading back to his parent club in January, where he featured for their Premier League 2 team.

Moulden has also featured heavily in the England youth setups, including two appearances at the European Under-17 Championships in 2019.

Welcome to the club, Louie!
