Rochdale Football Club are delighted to announce the return of Rhys Bennett.
The 31-year-old, who played for Dale between 2012 and 2016, has signed a deal until the end of the season.
Speaking on his return, Bennett commented:
“It’s really nice to be back.
“Walking through the stadium, it only feels like yesterday since I left!
“There’s been interest since the summer, and I just felt like now is the right time. I just want to play football. I’ve seen the situation that the club is in, and I just want to help.
“I think we all know what the goal is. I’ll give everything on the pitch, and around the club, to achieve that.”
Jim Bentley is delighted to add his third signing in 24 hours.
“Rhys is a good, experienced player at this level,” said the gaffer.
“I met him on Thursday and he impressed me as a person. He lives local and knows the club inside out.
“He has been training at a League One club, so he is fit and ready to go. With his knowledge, knowhow, and skillset, I am sure he will improve the squad.”
Bennett began his career at Bolton Wanderers, rising through their youth ranks, and also spent time on loan north of the border at Falkirk.
He joined Dale in the summer of 2012, going on to make 129 appearances for the club across four seasons.
During that time, he was a key member of our 2013/14 promotion campaign, as well as back-to-back runs to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The defender, who can also play in midfield, joined Mansfield Town after leaving Dale in 2016, followed by spells at Peterborough United, Carlisle United, Gillingham and Morecambe.
He is not eligible today’s game at home to Carlisle United but will be available to make his debut away to Salford City next weekend.
