Bentley's Thoughts Ahead Of Saturday

10 February 2023

Jim Bentley says his side must go into every game believing they can win.

Dale come up against fourth-placed Northampton Town on Saturday, four points from 23rd placed Gillingham.

The gaffer admits it is a tough period for the club, but one the players must embrace.

“It will be another tough game – they all are,” said Bentley.

“I’ve told the players this morning that anyone is capable of beating anyone in this league.

“We ran Salford close last week, should have got something against Carlisle. Two good sides that are at the top end of the table.

“We’ve got to go into the game on Saturday with the same mentality.

“Northampton are a good side in good form, very much like Leyton Orient the following Tuesday. Tough games are coming thick and fast.

“They are tough challenges on paper, but we go into every game believing we can win.

“It’s a tough period but one we’ve got to embrace. It’s a big period for the club and one which we’ve got to come out fighting in, no matter what.

“We’ve been working through stuff this week that we’ll need in the game, and all our focus is on Saturday’s game.”

The Dale boss also commented on Daniel Adshead, who joined on deadline day on loan from Cheltenham Town.

He is yet to feature for Dale as he continues to recover from an injury picked up earlier in the season.

“Transfer deadline day was a bit of mad one. Everyone knows the situation we were in.

“We made a move for Dan because we wanted to get bodies into the midfield area. It’s the hardest area to fill.

“Dan has been coming back from an injury and has been doing a lot, but from a return to play protocol, the Cheltenham physios wanted to keep him an extra two days [last week], and the plan was to get him in here on Monday [this week].

“He trained flat out on the Thursday and did a bit on the Friday, but he’s still not 100%.

“They know what his injury history is so we thought it was best to keep him there for the minute and get himself right, before he comes up here and gets into match situations.”
