Adam Clayton is set for a scan this week on the knee injury he sustained in Saturday’s draw against York City.
The midfielder was forced off the field after just 19 minutes, following a collision with an opposition player.
Jimmy McNulty said after the game that he was worried but will have everything crossed it is better news than first feared.
“It’s too early to say,” said the Head Coach.
“You just hope that these things surprise you, but Clayts has been around the block, he knows what’s what.
“He was worried. He said his knee felt very loose – not a lot of pain, but very loose, which is very worrying. He’s a big, significant player to lose.
“We’re threadbare. It’s hard not to mention it. The players are giving us everything. We pushed and controlled the game, and I want to help them. It breaks my heart when I lose some of them, because I know the implications are very precarious for us.
“We’ll scan it and we’ll cross our fingers.”
