Tommy McDermott Joins On Loan

10 August 2023

Rochdale Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Tommy McDermott on loan.

The midfielder joins from League One club Port Vale until January.

Upon joining Dale, McDermott commented:

"I'm very happy to have the opportunity to come here.

"Rochdale seems to play the way that suits me, they're a good, well-respected outfit.

"I'm glad to be coming here so I can showcase what I can do."

Head Coach Jimmy McNulty said:

"It was important that we reacted quickly to the loss of Cody Johnson, due to his recall to Stockport County.

"Tommy McDermott is a player that we were well aware of. He provides us good quality in that [centre-midfield] area of the pitch as well as offering versatility in other areas too.

"We thought it was a great opportunity to bring Tommy in. We're delighted to have him join our squad."

The 18-year-old progressed through The Valiants academy before earning a professional contract.

After providing six goals and 11 assists for the Under-18s in the 2021/22 season he won the Youth Team Player of the Year award and earned the opportunity to train with the first team towards the latter stages of Port Vale's promotion-winning season.

McDermott was handed his professional debut on the opening day of the 2022/23 campaign.

Dale's latest signing went on to make five first-team appearances in total for Port Vale, playing twice in the Football League Trophy, and once in the EFL Cup with his final two games coming in League One.

In January this year, he joined Salisbury FC on loan and impressed before returning to his parent club.

Welcome to the club, Tommy!
