Report | Dale 2-2 Bromley

25 August 2023

Dale were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Bromley, as both sides finished the game with ten men.

Chinweke Okoli’s header gave the visitors the lead, before two from Tyrese Sinclair turned the game on its head.

However, Bromley equalised just after the hour mark and although Dale dominated the game, they had to settle for just a point.

Jimmy McNulty named an unchanged starting eleven from Saturday’s win over Eastleigh, whilst new signing Max Conway came onto the bench in place of Devante Rodney, who was missing through illness.

As with the majority of Dale’s games so far this season, McNulty’s men dominated possession, although it was the visitors who had the first real chance when Corey Whitely fired an effort off the outside of the post.

Kairo Mitchell turned an effort goalwards which goalkeeper Grant Smith held, before he beat away Sinclair’s well-struck shot from 20-yards.

Smith’s opposite number Louie Moulden then made a good save to deny Ben Krauhaus, but there was nothing he could do to prevent Okoli putting Bromley ahead with a header from the resulting corner.

A Dale corner nearly led to an equaliser when Ryan East sent a deep cross towards Sinclair, whose effort was blocked behind.

In the 38th minute came the first red card of the night, when Joshua Passley was dimissed for a bringing down Cameron John in the area.

Sinclair stepped up and sent his spot kick straight down the middle to level matters.

East fired an effort inches wide of the upright from outside the area before Dale did have the ball in the back of the net through Mitchell, but he was adjudged to be offside.

Before the break, Ian Henderson sent an overhead kick wide and Mitchell headed an East cross at the goalkeeper.

It only took six minutes for Dale to get their noses in front, through a moment of brilliance from Sinclair.

He cut inside on to his right foot and curled an effort into the far top corner from the edge of the area for his third of the season.

However, the visitors equalised just after the hour mark, when Cheek completed a Bromley counter-attack with a neat finish to the far bottom corner.

Sinclair fired an effort off target before the sides were levelled, as Adam Clayton saw red for bringing down a Bromley man as he looked to break through on goal.

Cheek fired the resulting free-kick narrowly over, before the Ravens goalkeeper made a fine save to deny Henderson’s header.

The upright then denied Sinclair a hat-trick when his deflected effort came off the outside of the post.

Mitchell sent an effort wide of the far post, whilst Moulden made a comfortable low save to deny an effort from distance.

With two minutes remaining, Kyle Ferguson headed a corner goalwards but Smith made another five save to keep Dale at bay.

Henderson clipped an effort wide of the far post with Dale’s final chance in nine minutes of added time, as McNulty’s men were left frustrated with taking just a point from the game.
