Rochdale Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Jesurun Uchegbulam from Chesterfield.
The 22-year-old winger has joined Dale for an undisclosed nominal fee on a two-year deal.
Uchegbulam, who made 37 appearances for The Spireites last season, is excited for the season ahead.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be here,” he commented.
“It’s something that’s been going on for a while behind the scenes and I’m glad to get it over the line.
“I spoke to Jimmy [McNulty] and a few others about the club and everything I’ve heard has attracted me here.
“From being at Chesterfield last year, I’ve learned a lot about the league and myself as a player. I just want to now take that into this season at the club.”
Head Coach Jimmy McNulty commented:
“We are delighted to have secured Jez’s signature.
“He is an exciting and talented player that I feel will excite our supporters during his time here.
“He will add genuine competition for those wide players, adding to the good players that we’ve already got in that area.”
Uchegbulam was born in Lagos, Nigeria but moved to Italy as a youngster, where he was scouted by footballing giants AC Milan at the age of seven.
His family moved to England at 15-years-old and he was soon spotted by Everton, spending time on trial with the Toffees.
Spells in non-league at Stockport Town and Mossley followed, before moving to Matlock Town.
Impressive form led to a move to Chesterfield, where he made 37 appearances last season, as well as appearing in their opening day win over Dorking Wanderers last weekend.
