Dale exited the Lancashire Senior Cup at the quarter-final stage after a 3-0 loss to Accrington Stanley.
Anthony Mancini and Jack Nolan penalty put Stanley two goals to the good at the break, with Bailey Sloane adding a third late on to seal their passage through to the final four.
On a wet and windy evening at the Wham Stadium, it was hosts who created the early chances, as Seb Quirk and Matt Lowe both fired off target.
Stanley broke the deadlock in the 24th minute, when Mancini drove through the middle before finding the bottom corner with a cool finish from 18-yards.
They doubled their lead from the spot through Nolan, after George Nevett had fouled Lowe.
Oscar Kelly had a couple of chances before the break for Dale. Firstly, he had a looping header held by goalkeeper Liam Isherwood, before the goalkeeper then denied him by diving at his feet as he broke behind the defensive line.
From the resulting corner, Kevin Dos Santos sent a stooping header wide.
Joe Cunningham, Paddy Watts and Joh Dunlop all came on at the break, replacing Toby Mullarkey, Sam Graham and James Ball.
Jake Eastwood denied Korede Adedoyin’s shot with a strong fist, before Kelly saw a well-struck free-kick eventually held by Isherwood.
Lowe and Kelly then exchanged efforts well off target, whilst Nolan had a deflected effort come back off the upright, with Adedoyin blasting the follow up over.
Stanley added a third and effectively killed the game nine minutes from time, when Sloane’s well-taken volley found the far corner through a crowd of bodies.
Adedoyin hit the side netting and then had another effort well saved by Eastwood, as the game ended 3-0.
