Manager Jim Bentley looks ahead to his first league game in charge, as his side prepare for Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two fixture away at Carlisle United.
“Carlisle United are a good solid club at this level and I have come up against them quite a few times in my Morecambe days,” said the gaffer.
“They’ve got a good manager and a good man in charge, in Paul Simpson, who I personally know well and know his family, and I know he is an ex-Rochdale person, too.
“They’ve had a solid start to the season and they’re doing ok. Paul is a very experienced manager/ coach and has been in and around the game [for a long time] and knows what it’s all about.
“We’re away from home as well so we know that it’ll be a tough game, like they all are, there’s no hiding from that. I’ll be saying it to the players every matchday, that every game is difficult at any level, but every game is winnable as well, so that’s the mentality that we want to instil here.
“We were nearly there on Tuesday, which would have got us off to a fantastic start, but the performance was more like it for us [at Accrington] and, like any game we go into, there will be a game plan and we’ll be looking to win that game.
“There’s no use going anywhere and hoping you can nick a draw - that doesn’t matter if they’re top of the league or bottom of the league, we’ll give everyone the respect that they’re due, but come every matchday, we’ll give it a right good go to try to win the game and give everyone something to cheer. Saturday will be no different.
“It’ll be a difficult game. Is it winnable, yes. Is there strengths and weaknesses in the opposition, 100%, like we’ve got. But we’ve got to make sure that we implement our strengths on them more than they do on us. It’s got makings of a good game and hopefully we come out on top.”
