We Want To Build Confidence & Momentum - Jim Bentley

14 October 2022

Jim Bentley is hoping to continue to build confidence and momentum heading into this weekend’s game against Barrow AFC.

Dale were 1-0 winners at Newport County last weekend, making it consecutive wins away from home.

Now Bentley hopes his side can start picking up points at the Crown Oil Arena.

“It's all well and good doing it away from home,” said Bentley.

“At home, it should be your fortress, this is where you get the majority of your fans. People pay their hard-earned money to get behind you and we want to build a confidence and momentum. We’re showing signs of that.

“We’ll go into every game believing we can win, and we’ll do all we can to do that. The next important one is Barrow – they’re the next one up.

“We’re planning and preparing right, going through Barrow as a team, what they’ve done, where their strengths and weaknesses lie, and give it our all to try and win.

“We’ll embrace these three games and look forward to the challenges ahead, starting with Barrow on Saturday.”

Dale played a behind-closed-doors game against Accrington Stanley during the week, in which a number of players who have been out injured gained some much-needed minutes.

Bentley was also pleased to cast his eye on some of the scholars that were involved, as well as some younger members of the First Team.

“There are players who needed games. Jordan Scanlon hasn’t played a game since I’ve been here, so it was great to see him.

“There were Youth Team players involved and I think we ended up with six scholars on the pitch, as well as Scanlon, Ethan Brierley and Brad Kelly.

“It’s important, as a manager, that you get to see young lads who are in the Youth Team. It’s important that we get eyes on the young pros at the club, who can sometimes lose their way, because they play that much football at youth level, earn their professional contract, and then suddenly they find themselves between Youth Team and First Team.

“We’re not blessed enough to have an Under-21s or 23s, so it’s important we do have these games, so that we can look at these players and that they can continue to develop and improve.

“Cameron John played 45 minutes and Max Taylor was back on the pitch. Ben Nelson had an injury when I came, then he went away with England and has been off ill for a couple weeks, so it was great to see him on the pitch.

“We’ve got quite a few that needed the minutes on the pitch to aid their recovery and rehab. Apart from Cieran Slicker and Tahv Campbell, we’ve got a clean bill of health at the minute.”
