Dale will face Accrington Stanley and Salford City in Northern Group D of this season's Papa John's Trophy.
Sky Bet League One and Two clubs have been placed into pre-determined groups, ahead of the 16 Invited Under-21 teams being drawn into their respective groups on Thursday.
The Invited Under-21s teams in the northern section are Everton, Leeds United, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
All EFL Clubs will play two of their three matches at home in the Group Stages, with the opening ties to take place week commencing 29th August.
CARABAO CUP
Dale will be ball number 25 in Thursday's Carabao Cup Round One draw.
The first and second rounds of the competition are regionalised into northern and southern sections.
