Max Clark Joins Dale

21 January 2022

Rochdale Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Max Clark.

The 26-year-old defender, who can also operate in midfield, has signed a deal until the end of the season, subject to the relevant FA and EFL approval.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” said Clark after putting pen to paper.

“It was quick, short and sharp. As soon as I spoke with Robbie [Stockdale] I just wanted to get it done as soon as I could.

“He spoke to me about his ideas and the way he likes to play. He told me about the group of lads that he’s got here, and that’s what struck [a chord] with me. Once we had that conversation I had a good feeling, and once I had that feeling I wanted to get started here.

“I want to come here to be a part of the team and be successful together. I want to win games, and that’s what you’ll see in my mentality. I love winning.

“I will try to help the squad and team as much as I can. That’s what I can promise you - I will graft and work hard for the team and try to help them in every way that I can.

“But the most important thing is that we pick up results and get the wins, and try to get up the table. We want to be as high as we can and that’s our ambition now. When I spoke to the manager, he had that ambition and that what’s made me want to come here.”

Clark started his professional career at Hull City after progressing through the youth ranks there. As well as making 27 first team appearances, he also enjoyed two loan spells at Cambridge United during his time at the club before departing the Tigers to join Dutch side Vitesse on a permanent deal in 2018.

After a two-and-a-half-year stay in the Eredivisie, he moved back to England to rejoin Hull City on a short-term deal. Most recently he has spent the first half of the 2021/22 campaign at Fleetwood Town.

He was capped at under-17 and under-18 level by England.

“I’m pleased to welcome Max to the club,” added the Gaffer.

“He’s a quality signing and adds competition to several positions. He’s extremely professional and he’s a player that’s got good experience.

“I’ve always said that I wanted to add experience to the squad in this window and he’s certainly got that at a high level.”

Welcome to the club, Max!

The deal is subject to FA and EFL approval.
