We’re Very Disappointed With The Result - Richard O’Donnell

6 August 2022

Goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell says that there were “no excuses” for Saturday’s performance against Gillingham and he and the rest of the players will be looking to put that right as they head into a new week.

“We’re obviously very disappointed with the result,” said the Dale ‘keeper.

“It’s a little bit of deja vu from last week which we’re really disappointed about. We spoke about what happened last week in terms of the first half and starting quite slowly and it’s happened again today, so that’s the most disappointing thing from today.”

He continued: “We’re not coming here and making excuses about a long journey or anything like that. The fans have paid good money to come and watch that. There’s no excuses for it. It’s down to the players to put it right. We need to have a good chat amongst ourselves after the dust has settled and look at where we can improve.

“It’s good to have games coming thick and fast now, with the game [against Burton Albion] and hopefully we can put things right on Tuesday.”

O’Donnell made a number of excellent saves to keep Dale in the game, and he says he hoped the side could have nicked a goal at the end.

“We had a few set-pieces towards the end and I'm stood there thinking 'come on, let's put one of these away and we go away with a draw', which would have been a good result at a place like this, against another team that came down from League One last season. It wasn't meant to be and ultimately we are disappointed with the result.”
