Youth Team Report | Carlisle United 1-1 Rochdale

22 November 2021

Rochdale secured a hard-fought point on the road on Saturday, from a 1-1 draw with Carlisle United in Cumbria, after Dale’s early opener was cancelled out by a second half equaliser.

With only five minutes on the clock, Dale opened the scoring thanks to a wonderful piece of play which saw Jadel Yaduat put a ball over the top into the stride of Jordan Scanlon, who latched onto it and converted comfortably past the ‘keeper to break the deadlock.

Moments later, Scanlon was close to adding a second when Yaduat pulled the ball back across the face of goal, but he fired over.

Just after the half hour, Brad Kelly produced a great double save to deny the Carlisle.

When the last action of the half came, Dale were forced into a substitution, with the injured Yaduat being replaced by Kibonda.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, the hosts had a huge chance to equalise but they squandered the opportunity, with the effort, from inside the area, fired straight at Kelly who saved comfortably.

Shortly after the hour, Carlisle were reduced to ten men after the referee showed a straight red card for what appeared to be dissent.

And with only ten minutes of time left to play, the home side found the equaliser.

The last ten minutes saw tensions rise and Carlisle were reduced to ten men after a late challenge on Paul Kyffin.

With three minutes remaining, Dale were inches away from scoring a late winner but were denied by the woodwork, when Scanlon’s shot came crashing off the bar.

Rochdale were reduced to ten men deep in stoppage, with Paddy Watts receiving a second yellow.
