Youth Team Report | Dale 4-1 Port Vale

1 March 2021

Dale recorded back-to-back victories on Saturday, dismantling Port Vale with an emphatic 4-1 win.

A brace each from Luke Nock and Joe Wright ensured all three points after falling behind early on.

The first chance of the match came when Nock fired a shot in following a corner, Ethan Pye couldn’t quite convert on the stretch.

Despite a positive start, it was the visitors who went ahead – Louie Chorlton’s slip saw Vale’s number nine played through on goal and his shot deflected in past Brad Kelly.

Dale responded well and were back on level terms when Jordan Scanlon cut the ball back for Wright to smash a shot under the ‘keeper.

Then, Wright broke down the left once more before setting up Ethan Brierley whose shot from the edge of the area was held by the ‘keeper.

Ten minutes into the second half, Dale took the lead – substitute Peter Thomas headed the ball on for Wright who showed great composure before finishing emphatically into the far corner.

Port Vale’s defence was breached once more when Brierley whipped in a wicked ball from a free-kick, Nock rising highest to glance the ball home and put Dale two to the good.

Nock then showed great precision to find Thomas with a long ball which caused the Vale ‘keeper to bundle Thomas over for a Dale penalty.

Nock stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to make sure of victory.

The result caps off a successful week for Chris Brown’s side after beating Bolton Wanderers 2-0 on Tuesday.

Dale are next in action on Tuesday when they host Walsall.
