Supporters Trust Representative To Join Board Of Directors

24 June 2021

Rochdale Football Club would like to inform supporters of the following changes to the Board of Directors…

The Board of Directors have agreed to welcome a representative from the Dale Supporters Trust onto the board as a Director. The decision has been taken to allow fans to have a representative voice in the board room.

“It is our stated intention to continue to strengthen the board at Rochdale AFC and we are thrilled to do this by finding a way to give the Dale Supporters Trust a representative voice around the board room table, without compromising their integrity and ability to scrutinise the actions of the club. We look forward to welcoming the first Supporters Trust representative Director onboard,” said Rochdale AFC Chairman Simon Gauge.

Upon joining the board:

  • The Trust representative will have equal voting rights with all other Directors;
  • The Trust representative stands for a two-season fixed period before a vote takes place to elect a replacement;
  • No Trust representative can serve more than two terms.

In order to be able to sit on the board as a Director, the Trust representative will sign a confidentiality agreement meaning they can represent and vote in accordance with fans’ wishes, but they will have to maintain board confidentiality. Therefore, there will be some matters that they will not be able to report back to the Trust.

The executors of David Clough’s estate have agreed to spend £25,000 from the estate to enable the Trust representative to join the board. The money will be used to purchase shares in the name of the Dale Supporters Trust.

Colin Cavanah, Chairman of the Dale Supporters Trust, said: “We are delighted to have come to an agreement with the Football Club for the Trust to have a Supporters’ Director on the club’s Board of Directors. In joining the Board, we must pay tribute to David Clough, without whom this would not be possible. His legacy has donated £25,000 to allow the Trust to purchase further shares in the Football Club. It says it all about the man that even beyond his passing, he continues to make a difference to supporters of our Football Club. We hope we can do him justice.”

A further announcement regarding the representative will follow in due course, once the required EFL director checks have been completed.
