The Youth Team advanced to the semi-finals of the Youth Alliance Cup thanks to a penalty shootout win over Bolton Wanderers.
After a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, goalkeeper Ben Chalton saved three spot-kicks as Dale won 3-1 in the shootout.
The sides exchanged chances in the opening period before Dale gained the lead via an own goal, after a Bolton defender had turned a cross from the right beyond his own goalkeeper.
Dale struck a post and had chances saved by the Bolton stopper in the second-half before an injury time penalty was awarded, and converted, to Bolton, meaning the game went straight to a penalty shootout.
Although Chalton had no chance with the penalty in normal time, he pulled off three great saves to deny Bolton scoring any but their first penalty, and thanks to three converted penalties from Dale, they qualified for the semi-finals of the competition.
