Robbie Stockdale's Pre-Match Thoughts

17 December 2021

Robbie Stockdale spoke to the club’s website ahead of Saturday’s match against Newport County…

“It was a difficult week for us, last week,” said Stockdale.

“Training this week has been good. We’ve had lots of availability of players, so lots of options to choose from.

“There are pros and cons to having a free midweek. Sometimes you want to get out on to the pitch and put right a wrong.

“Saying that, it has given us time to work on things. With three games in six days, you’re not really training, it’s more recovery based.

“We feel that we’ve had a good week, but come Saturday teatime, we’ll know if we’ve done the work that’s been required.

“The squad looks okay. Jimmy Keohane is the only one missing.  Everyone else is available for selection.

“We’ve got a couple of players back from longer term injuries, so whether they’re match fit, we’ll make a decision on that. In general terms, we’re looking okay.

“Games will come really quickly. We’re going to have to be prepared and both physically and mentally right to play.

“When the players get the opportunity, they need to show that they’re good enough to stay in the team. That’s always the challenge for players.

“There’s competition for places and we’ll probably pick up bumps and bruises over the Christmas period, so we’ll try to make sure that everyone is fit and ready to play when required.”
