A Great Reward For The Lads - Barry-Murphy

2 February 2020

Brian Barry-Murphy spoke of his delight after his Dale side managed to pick up all three points against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

The win came courtesy of a late Tyler Smith goal, which saw him score his first goal for the Club.

Barry-Murphy believes the goal will provide a lift for everyone,

“To see Tyler get his first goal for the club was huge for everyone in the dressing room,” said the Dale boss.

“He is still catching up with game speed and fitness and he will improve every day.

“He is a major asset to our dressing room because he can finish chances on a weekly basis. When it fell to him there was no doubt in my mind that he would score.”

Barry-Murphy made four changes for today’s game including a return for Robert Sánchez in the Dale goal.

The Dale boss is pleased to have players coming back from injury, and believes it will be a boost to the squad as a whole.

“It is really reassuring to the group. We haven’t got a big squad but a strong young core that we really believe in and have provided us with some momentous moments this season.

“Sánchez doesn’t look like a loan player. He looks like a player who has been with us for a while and he’s very entwined within the squad ethos.

“Ryan McLaughlin has done amazing work behind the scenes to get himself back on the pitch two or three times already this season.

“He deserves every accolade he gets and he will be hoping he can continue progressing his fitness and get more moments as the season progresses.

“We hoped after the turn of the year we would have everyone available. That would be our biggest boost during January.

“While we have had some setbacks in the past few weeks, the boys feel confident.”
