BBM Pre-Lincoln City

5 December 2020

Manager Brian Barry-Murphy looks ahead to Saturday’s League One fixture against Lincoln City at the Crown Oil Arena…

Rochdale go on into the game against the Imps, who are second in the table, on the back of the midweek win over Plymouth.

BBM says having made the 300 mile trip home from Devon overnight on Tuesday, the lads were back in on Thursday to prepare for the weekend’s fixture.

'We have Plymouth, Charlton and Plymouth as our three main [long away] ones. It’s never easy because you can imagine that the bus journey back was a lot more spritely than normal after such a result.

“That’s great for us all, though, and leads us into getting through Wednesday and coming back in on Thursday to start planning straight away for Lincoln.

“We’re used to it at the moment in terms of the intensity of the fixtures. We’re used to having one game and then getting ready to go again quite quickly.”

The Boss says it was particularly pleasing to score four goals on Tuesday and that any focus on Saturday is very much on Dale.

“Lincoln are almost at the top of the league and they have had a brilliant season.

“We’re just very focused on ourselves. Our performances over the last period having been very exciting and we felt as if we were on the verge of scoring a lot of goals in any game. To see that come to fruition on Tuesday was very rewarding and exciting for us all because we believe that we have that capability within the squad.

“People will doubt you and think you’re just saying it, so that fact that we did it makes us even hungrier to go and improve more, score more goals and be a more dynamic and dangerous team. That feels very exciting to be a part of.”

And BBM says it was a relief for everyone to see Jake Beesley’s scans come back as clear, following the nasty head collision at Home Park.

“It’s brilliant news. Jake came in to see us yesterday, which was Thursday, having travelled back on Wednesday with our medical team. All of his scans were clear, which was somewhat of a relief. The joy of seeing him back in amongst them was tantamount, it was brilliant for us.

“It was a very uneasy situation for us all - there’s no practice to get ready for those situations. It developed into a pretty long night but the following morning was a huge relief for us all and the camaraderie between everybody, from players, staff and the Board towards Jake and his family was great.”
