Andy Lonergan Emergency Loan Renewed

8 March 2019

Andy Lonergan’s emergency loan deal has been renewed for a further week.

The experienced goalkeeper has made four appearances since his arrival from Middlesbrough last month.

He will be available for our home fixtures against Shrewsbury Town and Oxford United.

First Team Coach Brian Barry-Murphy is grateful to secure the services of the 35-year-old again, with Josh Lillis still a couple of weeks away from a return to action.

“Josh’s calf injury is a touch complex,” said Barry-Murphy.

“It’s the same as Zach Clough had earlier in the season actually. You almost get close to a return but it takes you quite a bit to get over the final hurdle.

“I watched him training on Tuesday. He said he felt okay but I think he’s still a couple of weeks away from being available for selection, so we’re very grateful for Andy to be still with us.

“We were together at Preston a number of years ago, so I know him very well and despite our results he’s been very successful. All of our players are happy he’s still here.

“The results have been no reflections on his performance whatsoever. A lot of our guys feel as if we haven’t really matched his performance levels and we’ll be looking to do that in the next games coming up.”
