Focusing On Our Own Game Plan - BBM

30 August 2019

Manager Brian Barry-Murphy on Saturday’s League One fixture v Southend United at Roots Hall…

“Traditionally, it has been an extraordinarily tough ground for us, but I don’t like to focus too much on what’s gone on in the past.

“Southend’s start has been slightly misleading in the fact that they’ve had a lot of good spells in games and a lot of productive attacking play. They obviously haven’t won yet, but it couldn’t be a more dangerous time for us to play them.

“We’re very conscious of our own game plan and trying to apply our traits and what we’ve been doing and trying to get even better at them. We’re also very conscious of trying to implement our own game plan on them and giving them problems, and not focusing too much the situation Southend are in.”

And BBM says despite the Manchester United game being on the horizon, he has no qualms about the squad turning their full attention to Dale’s scheduled league fixtures which take place before then.

“It’s of no concern to me having remind the players of the focus that is required for the game at Southend on Saturday and leading into the rest of the fixtures before the Manchester United match.

“Our lads have got a great focus on what they are doing in terms of a daily training basis and from the minute we congregated this morning (Thursday), the lads were right back on their recovery and the focus was on Saturday.

“We have routines and processes that we go through on a weekly basis and there was no need for me to remind them.

“I don’t believe in worrying about things that might happen, I believe in focusing on what the players do and what we can control, and that process is very much in place.”
