Flashback | FA Cup Second Round Wins

29 November 2018

Ahead of Dale’s Emirates FA Cup second round tie at home to Portsmouth on Sunday, we look back at some of our second round wins over recent years.

13/14 – Rotherham United (A)

Dale recorded one of the surprise results of the second round, beating Rotherham United, who were flying high in League One, 2-1 away from home.

Lee Frecklington had given the hosts an early lead, but goals after the break from Matty Lund and Peter Vincenti wrapped up the win.

14/15 – Aldershot (H)

Dale faced a long journey to Aldershot on the Sunday of the second round weekend and had goalkeeper Conrad Logan to thank for earning a 0-0 draw.

In the replay, a Matty Done hat-trick and a goal from former Aldershot man Peter Vincenti helped Dale see of the non-league side 4-1.

16/17 – Carlisle United (A)

Carlisle were flying high at the top of League One when Dale were drawn away to the Cumbrians.

Second-half goals from Steven Davies and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing meant Dale avoided an ‘upset’, progressing to the third round, setting up a tie away to Barrow.

17/18 – Slough Town (A)

The second round draw pitted Dale against the lowest ranked team left in the competition in Slough Town.

Selected for live coverage on BT Sport, Dale took an early lead through Calvin Andrew.

A further three goals were added in the second period through Callum Camps, Ian Henderson and Matty Done.
