Daniel Adshead Scores On England Debut

16 November 2018

Daniel Adshead had a dream start to his international career on Thursday, when he scored on his England under-18 debut.

The Dale midfielder earned a start in the Young Lions’ four nations game against the Netherlands, after receiving his first-ever call-up.

Academy graduate Adshead joined up with the 20-man squad on Sunday for the competition in Spain. He’ll spend 11 days on international duty, as England play three games while in Murcia.

The youngsters, who played the majority of their opening match of the mini tournament with 10-men, were held to a 2-2 by the Dutch.

Luca Ashby-Hammond was sent off after just six minutes for handling outside his area. But despite the personnel deficit, they went on to take the lead in the 13th minute when Tyreece John-Jules converted from the spot.

Four minutes later, Adshead scored his debut goal to double England’s advantage.

The Dutch halved the deficit through Marouan Azarkan, before Joshua Zirkee netted an 81st minute penalty to secure a point.

England U18s starting eleven: Ashby-Hammond (Fulham), Daley-Campbell (Arsenal), Thomas (Leicester City), Kpohomouh (Southampton), Ogbeta (Manchester City), Appiah (Nottingham Forest), Anjorin (Chelsea), John-Jules (Arsenal), Gordon (Everton), Jones (Liverpool), Adshead (Rochdale).
