Josh Lillis spoke to www.rochdaleafc.co.uk about extending his stay the club…
The long-serving goalkeeper put pen to paper on a deal until 2020 on Tuesday and he admits it was an easy decision to commit his future to Rochdale.
“I’ve loved my time here and I’ve got good working relationships with everyone at the club, from the management to the staff and the boys,” said Lillis.
“The Gaffer has put a lot of trust in me and he knows that I’ve given him everything from day one, as far back as the first time I was here. Me and the Gaffer had a good couple of chats prior to me signing the extension – he understands me and I get him.”
Lillis’ contract was due to expire this summer and he’s pleased that he has been able to secure his future before the end of the season.
“My contract was due to be up in the summer so it was nice to get my future sorted early. I’ve got a young family so it’s nice to have that security.
“Every summer, there are thousands of players out of contract and I’ve seen players fall by the wayside because they’ve let their contracts run out or they’re wanting too much. It’s not always greener on the other side.
“It’s nice to be settled and know where you are. It doesn’t mean a lack of ambition, because I feel there’s still a lot we can do at this football club and there’s a lot still to be achieved.”
