“Our Mentality Is To Overachieve” - Hill

26 January 2018

Keith Hill says his and the club’s mentality is to overachieve, and that there are no excuses for not doing so.

Hill believes the club’s recent successful seasons have led to a plateauing out so far this campaign, but he has reiterated that the aim is to continue overachieving.

“I made the decision to stay at the football club and sign a five-year contract, knowing that we may potentially plateau out,” commented Hill.

“But there are no excuses for us not overachieving. Our mentality is to overachieve, overachieve, overachieve, and give ourselves an opportunity to be successful.

“I chose to be at this football club, and I expect, and I do get, the loyal support from the Chairman and Board Of Directors, the supporters, and the players.

“That is relatively rare within the football world, and that could change, there’s no question about that. My job at this football club shouldn’t be taken for granted, and it certainly isn’t by myself.

“We do plan and the plans are still there for a successful future. For a successful future we have to balance the books, and I have to continue developing players to bring revenue into this football club.

“I want sustainable success and I want a long-term future at the football club. Personally, as a manager of Rochdale AFC and a custodian of this football club, I don’t want to ruin its future.

“I want to leave a legacy because of the finances I’ve brought to the football club and what we’ve been able to do with those finances.

“The one thing I haven’t been able to do is retain players that have left for one reason or another which have made us weaker, but that’s no fault of the club, that’s just the footballing world spending more and more money that we can’t keep up with.

“We do our due diligence when we bring players in and we’ll continue to respect the financial fair play league and our core values that have seen us successful in my time at the football club.

“But I won’t take us back to the days when there was historical debt and we couldn’t pay bills, and we’re not in that position at this moment in time and that gives us flexibility to be successful in the future.”
