We Deserved It - Andy Cannon

18 February 2018

Man Of The Match Andy Cannon says Dale deserved their last-gasp equaliser in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

Steven Davies’ 93rd minute strike secured a fifth-round replay at Wembley, and Cannon says it was an unbelievable feeling.

“I’ve never felt anything like it before,” said Cannon.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling. We deserved it I think and now we’re off to Wembley for the replay. Everybody is over the moon and the atmosphere is unbelievable.

“All the lads worked so hard. We were passing it and playing well, and I thought we were equally as good.”

That’s what he’s got in his locker. You’ve seen it a number of times this season. When you pass it to him there’s a good chance it’s going into the back of the net.

Spurs turned the game on it’s head and looked to be heading through thanks to Harry Kane’s 88th minute penalty, but Cannon and his teammates kept working and got their reward.

“You have to stick to the plan and keep playing the way you’re playing. They’re world class players, but you’ve got to keep working hard and do what the manager says.

“We fight until the last minute and we got our reward in the end.”

It is back to league action on Wednesday with the visit of MK Dons, and the Dale Academy product insists Dale have to take this momentum into that game.

“Our main priority is to start winning in the league. That’s a good confidence boost for us. We go again on Wednesday and we need the three points.

“We can enjoy ourselves, but tomorrow we’ve got to crack on prepare properly for Wednesday.”
