Calvin Andrew Spreads Some Christmas Cheer

23 December 2018

Calvin Andrew help to spread some Christmas cheer earlier this week, visiting a lifelong Dale fan at a local residential home.

The Dale forward went along to meet David Clough at Mona Cliffe Residential Home in Littleborough.

David, once known as Mr Goldbond, was a Dale Goldbond Agent for many years and brought in thousands of pounds worth of revenue for the club. He’s also an avid Rochdale fan and manages to get to games when he can.

David has a fantastic network of friends who have rallied round him following a recent bout of ill-health, but sadly has no family members to visit him at this time of year.

Thanks to the power of social media, our Dale in the Community Sports Trust team were quick to organise a visit to the residential home after reading a Facebook post about David, and Calvin was delighted to attend.

The pair spent time chatting about all things Rochdale AFC and David received a Christmas card from Calvin.

Siobhan McElhinney, Dale in the Community Sports Trust Assistant Manager, commented: "It was great to see David when we visited on Thursday.

"We, at Rochdale Football Club, pride ourselves as being a family, friendly club, and at this time of the year in particular, it's so very important to us that we spread goodwill and a little bit of Christmas spirit in the community.

"David dedicated many years to the club and is fondly remembered for that, despite seven years having passed since he jumped on his Goldbond bike for one last time, and it was great to hear his enthusiasm about the club and the team.

"We're informed that David enjoyed his afternoon with Calvin, but the pleasure was all ours!

"We’d like to wish David, the other residents at Moncliffe Residential Home and all Dale supporters a very merry Christmas."
