Youth Team: Chris Brown Ahead Of Wigan Athletic Trip

29 September 2017

PDP Lead Coach Chris Brown spoke to iFollow ahead of the Youth Team’s trip to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

“We’re expecting a tough game. It’s always tough playing against them, they’re very competitive. The rivalry is really good. It should be two good teams going at each other.

“They’ve got superb training facilities and some really good players. It’s another test and another challenge for us going forwards, and playing well again. We’ve got to be ruthless and clinical in the final third.”

The Youth Team’s 1-0 win over Carlisle United last weekend was their third consecutive victory, all of which have brought clean sheets.

“We need to build on that. I was really happy with our play against Carlisle United and we asked for that to be taken in to Tuesday’s game against Accrington. So we need that same sort of quality, and just add a little to it.”

The midweek game against Accrington Stanley saw Dale exit the Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup on penalties, after a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes.

“I think we should have been out of sight quite early in the game,” said Brown.

“We created a number of opportunities first half, countless in the second half. We were in the penalty box so many times but failed with our quality.

“We went over it on Wednesday and analysed it with the lads and showed them where they should have been, and they know that.”
