Youth Team: It's Pleasing To End 2017 On A High – Chris Brown

20 December 2017

Academy PDP Lead Coach Chris Brown has praised the “collective and individual performances” of his players, following the Youth Team’s 2-0 win over Blackpool.

Dale were comfortable winners over the Seasiders, after a dominant display at Bower Fold.

It was the side’s final game of 2017 and Brown was pleased to end the year with a victory.

“The overall team collective and individual performances were very, very good. We looked a solid unit but the individuals within that unit were also really good. I think that’s one of the best performances we’ve had this season – it was a professional performance.

“We defended superbly well, kept a clean sheet and probably could have scored me goals – our decision making maybe wasn’t the greatest at times but we’ve scored two goals and won the game comfortably against a team who beat West Ham in the FA Youth Cup on Friday night.

“We showed real aggression but disciplined aggression to win the ball back and a real competitive edge to not concede a goal, but that started all the way at the top, with Fabio, Lewis and Neil’s endless running. That was backed up by the three midfielders and the back four and Brad, who were superb. Blackpool only had one opportunity and Brad made a good save to keep them out.

“We need everyone to make sure they’re singing on the same hymn sheet and we were today.”

He continued: “It’s pleasing that we’ve ended 2017 on a high.

“I’ve been really, really pleased with how the lads have been since the start of the season. We’ve got a break in fixtures now and then we’ll go again during the second part of the season.

“It’s pleasing for everyone, and as coaching staff, we’re seeing big development in the players and in their mentality too, as work towards getting them to the levels where we need them to be for them to be knocking on the door of the first team.”
