Man of the Match Ollie Rathbone spoke to iFollow after Dale’s 1-1 draw against Scunthorpe United…
“They’re a very good team, I think they showed that last year. They’ve built on their squad from last season, so hopefully as we get further into the season we’ll look back at it as a point gained.
“It’s hard to take [having gone a goal up to end drawing the game] but they’re a good team – they’re going to create chances. I thought we defended well today, but the one time we didn’t they took their chance – that’s what good teams do.”
Rathbone is in his second season as a professional, having joined Dale from Manchester United at the beginning of last season. He's hoping to build on a successful first season with the club, after gaining valuable experience in League One last term.
“It was difficult at times last year. I felt lost at times, especially when I first arrived - it was difficult trying to find my feet. When I found my feet it was about trying to maintain my energy levels, which maybe faded towards the end of the season, but I think that’s natural.
“I’ve had a rest over the summer and worked hard. I feel much stronger in my body and in my legs. I’ve completed two 90-minute games now already. Last season I didn’t play many 90-minute matches because I just didn’t have it in my body.
“I’ve got goals and aspirations that are a lot higher and a lot more difficult than they were last year.”
