We Come Away With Our Heads Held High - Ian Henderson Post Stoke

24 August 2017

Ian Henderson spoke to iFollow after Wednesday’s Carabao Cup defeat at Premier League Stoke City…

The Rochdale Captain says his side came up against a top team, and that they can take confidence despite defeat.

“We’ve played against an elite team this evening,” said Henderson. “The way that those guys moved the ball at that tempo is a pleasure to watch. The likes of Charlie Adam in midfield who was spraying the ball around – he hit two of the best passes I’ve seen since being a professional footballer.

“We can go away from this evening keeping our heads high, because we’ve put in a good performance, and they’ve counter attacked and scored four unbelievable goals against us.

“They’re the types of players we want to come up against. We’ve worked hard to get into this round when the big boys come in. Professional footballers want to play against the best players and at the best stadiums, and for a lot of the young lads in the changing room it’s an unbelievable learning curve for them.

“We go into derby day on Saturday with our heads held high. We’ve got lots of confidence even though the result doesn’t show that.”
